FAQ'S

How does it work?

Our program is designed for parents who are looking for a blended homeschooling and classroom-style schooling for their children.  Students are given work to do at home for our classes on days they are not at the program, which allows parents to focus on teaching other subjects.  Parents may choose to teach more of any one subject, of course, but if they do not, students will still be getting a great education from our instructors.

For Grade 3/4 in the Regular Program, for example, the only core course that is not taught is mathematics.  Parents would teach this at home and will monitor homework from the program on at-home days.

Are books and materials covered as part of tuition?

Tuition covers the cost of many books and materials, though students will have to buy some of their own books and materials.  A list of books and materials is sent out in the summer.

My child does has not had any lessons in music.  Will this affect his/her ability to take the Sacred Music class?

Not at all!  Students are all taught the basics of music and singing in the Musicianship and Vocal Technique classes.  Although some knowledge of music is an asset, it is certainly not essential to the Sacred Music program.

Is there a lot of work online?

Some work and information for courses may be online depending on the class, but most of the work is either done in the classroom or in a notebook.

Can students sign up for just one class in any of the program?

We have found that students who sign up for only one class do not get the fullness of the program as classes overlap to provide the essential character of our program.  It is through the breadth and complete program that students can enter fully into the true, the good and the beautiful, and can then fully enjoy what we have to offer.

That said, we do offer a small number of courses on Mon/Wed and all courses on Tues/Thurs as individual courses that can be taken on a supplemental basis.

What is the connection between The Paideia Centre and the Academy of Our Lady?

The Academy is one of the programs run by The Paideia Centre.

What is a classical education?

The primary aim of a Classical education is to form the entire person - not simply to help him/her find a job at the end of the years spent in school.  It is rooted in the liberal arts, as well as in the Great literary, historical, philosophical and theological works of Western Civilization.  Classical education aims to educate the child not only in intellect, but also in morality and virtue, which, for us, are rooted in the Catholic faith.  Truth, goodness and beauty are the guiding principles of a Christian Classical education.

Will students study only Western Civilization?

The majority of our classes are based on the great works of Western Civilization that have been past down to us through the centuries and have formed much of Catholic culture.  However, students will have many opportunities to learn about past and current cultures from other areas of the globe, as these are also an important part of formation.

Do students wear uniforms?

Yes, they do.  We firmly believe that how one dresses directly impacts one’s success and is reflective of each individual’s innate human dignity. Please see our latest Program Information package for the most current uniform requirements.

When is the registration deadline?

The early registration deadline for 2024-2025 is June 15, 2024. Registrations after that date will incur a small late fee.

Do you offer financial help?

As much as possible, we would like to help those who are in financial need, though our resources are limited.

We offer discounted tuition for families who register more than one child, and hope to be able to help others as well.  If you are in need of financial aid, we recommend that you contact us and we can discuss it during your interview.

Do you offer classes for adults?

Yes, the Paideia Centre does offer some adult classes.  For more information about this, please contact us or watch our Events page.

I don’t have any children, but I would like to help.  Whom should I contact?

If you are interested in helping us, please consider becoming a collaborator.  You may email us at  office.ourlady@gmail.com for more information.
